RTF BLOG

In rtf class I was introduced to blogging; I myself had never been a blogger but more of a blogger viewer. In my opinion, blogging was a bit sketchy when it came a posotive aspect yes it helped us with learning the terms and concepts from class but I think in a very restricted way that made it a bit of a drag. Using a blog over all was not a very technical process, but concept wise I feel it would have been better if it contained much more creative concepts that would help us with getting better at filming and at the same time using the concepts learned in class, rather than just writing about the concepts. I think I was never able to overcome the difficulties because I felt that I had to be what the post wanted me to be instead of really giving my feedback of my ideas to each concept. Over all, the blogs were interesting. They presented the most interesting topics of class, but the way that you wanted us to present them to you was not very creative in my opinion. A blog can be fun but I think if it asks for more creative answers not just writing and it should be used but other classes just in a much more creative way. Make the concept better, not so dry like it all began with the title of our blog its just “insert name here RTF blog” that just constrains the creative mind that many times an RTF major carries with him. 

Globalization AHORA (Now)

Globalization is a process that is very much upon us, with the growing minority population globalization in the media, film, and advertisement is eminent. Globalization basically is the many influences that effect nations, cultures and people all around the world with the aid technology. Globalization is seen in greatly in Hybridity, which in many cases includes taking an idea that was successful in one country and making there own version always by adding a touch of the new culture, so that the product is a success in this new line of media that comes with a whole new set of audience. Hybridization was seen when Univision made it's own version of the show desperate housewives, then in it's fourth season, the show was already a great hit for the american population and although not in a different country this new version of the show was made for a whole new audience the latina woman. In Univison's version we saw the attempt for those people that live in the United States but do not understand english to enjoy this show which included familiar faces and also in their own language. In the pilot episode the mixing of cultures was seen greatly when a character asks his mom for some mole with tortillas a very popular mexican dish, instead of her always preparing lasagna an other american dishes. Hybridization was seen in the show because although it still kept its american structure of a sitcom, it some what resembled a mexican telenovela with the overly dramatic acting and the robust women that many times appear in a telenovela, this in effect was done so that the latina woman could not only identify with the characters emotions or actions but also in the way they looked.Univision did this but while still trying to keep it in the range of the Mexican American look of the latina. In conclusion many of this tactics are done in order for rating to be high, if the audiences feelings towards the show are "hey that's totally me" than it's more than sure that they will keep coming back.

It's time to ADVERTISE

The ad that I will analyze is the one for the new my touch 4G cell phone by t-mobile. In this ad t-mobile uses the premises that apple uses to compare a PC to a Mac with the two people on the screen describing how they are better than each other. In the end obviously since it is a mac comercial it turns out to be the better product. In this new my touch 4G ad we see a woman that represents the my touch 4g and a man carrying what he says is the at&t service on his back which makes at&t feel like a burdon. In the ad they discuss one of the biggest flaws that the iPhone 4 has which is only being able to use facetime where there is wifi the man that represents at&t service mentions an airport as one of the places where people can use face time.

To me the fact that t-mobile points out one of the biggest flaws that the iPhone 4 has and how it's service has surpassed such a flaw is a very good way to make a person that really wants to use face time switch over to the t-mobile network. 
The ad appeal that this ad uses is that of achievement, the way that it is used in this ad is by pointing out how t-mobile has achieved to make face time a service that can be used anywhere and how at&t has only managed to make face time available where there is wifi. What this advertisement appeal manages to do is make the at&t costumer or any person that is really interested in using face time be aware that t-mobile has achieved to offer this service in a much better way than its network rival at&t.  At the end it also mentions how it runs on a 4G and not 3G network like that of at&t. Achievement I feel is used very well in this ad because it is short and effective it and it also uses something that people are familiar with which is that of the apple commercial to make people turn and see what the new apple commercial is and instead it is a t-mobile commercial, which in the end not only catches the the eye of the average consumer but also the eye of the apple consumer which is in turn the person that t-mobile has managed not to appeal to yet since they still use an iPhone. 

Chronological Wizard

In the film the Wizard of Oz of 1939 the three act system is used in a way that the audience dose not get lost in the story for it follows chronology very well.

INTRODUCTION

The introduction of the characters is mostly done in the first 15 minutes of the when Dorthy goes around her farm and also decides to run away but then she regrets it and goes back home. The transition that take us away from the introduction and peaks when the cyclone pulls her house up from the ground. The questions that these rises is that of, When is the house the fall? Whats going to happen to Dorthy? and when it falls were is is going to fall? The scene with the cyclone implies a complication in the plot.

COMPLICATION

The complication is introduced when Dorthy's house finally lands and she falls on a witch and finds herself in the land of OZ. This answers the questions that the introduction brings up when t cyclone happens. Dorthy then realizes that going back home won't be very easy and also that the Wicked Witch of the west will make her life complicated on her way to the the Wizard in Emerald City. As she skips done the yellow brick road we are introduced to other characters who also have problem the scarecrow wants a brain the tin man a heart and the lion bravery. When they are about to get to Emerald City and the Wizard he asks them to bring him the witches broom once the set off to the witches castle, they get attacked by her minions which abduct Dorthy. The peak of the complication is when her three friends forget about their problems and focus on getting Dorthy back. When they are inside the castle they manage to help Dorthy escape and get the witches broom which they then take to the wizard. Once the task is finished questions are raised weather this will help Dorthy go back home.

RESOLUTION 

The resolution of this is when Dorthy and her friends get what what they want. The scarecrow gets a diploma, the tin man a ticking heart, and the Lion get a medal for helping Dorthy. Dorthy then sees her chances of getting back home by traveling via air balloon with the wizard. this answers the question of weather the Wizard would hep them or not when the task was completed.  

CLIMAX

The climax of this film is when Dorthy realizes that by clicking her heels three times and saying " There's no place like home" will take her back home. This then solves the original dilemma which is that of Dorthy going back home to Kansas.

In conclusion Dorthy returns home form OZ or really just wakes up form her dream which teaches her that her home is where she really wants to be and she is happy once more which culminates in the happy ending of this structure. 

ALL RESOLVED IN JUST 30 MINUTES

The sitcom has always been a kind of show that entertains us for about half an hour with the outrageous plot lines and problems that the characters tend to get into but at the end of the show after many laughs and sometimes imposible actions the problems are solved and everything returns to the happy settings of before.The problems faced are mostly happening to the main character of the sitcom, who has done something wrong or has gotten themselves in a situation that deals with some kind of moral value. Most of the time the plot involves the person going to extrem lengths so that the victim of the wrong doing does not find out about it. This of course paves way for the story line to become very funny for the writers have more to grab in order to make the story line more interesting instead off just having a mono tone plot line. Never the less after all the twists and turns the protagonist manages to save the day.

In the show "Thats's So Raven", Raven the protagonist which is a psychic;  finds herself in situations that her visions put her in. Her visions are misleading which make her think that they are going to happen a certain way and when it does it is totally different then what she thought. This makes her do something right which seems wrong or makes her do something wrong that she has to fix. In an episode Raven finds herself turning in a hate letter instead of a composition for one of her classes. Raven then has a vison of her teacher reading the letter. In order for her teacher not to see the hate letter Raven along with her friends decide to steal the letter back. Since the classroom door is locked she has to enter the classroom thru a cracked window on top of the door once in there she finds out that the drawer which contains the letter is locked also. Raven decides to steal the desk and take it somewhere to be unlocked this causes her to go on a wild ride literally when she rides on the desk down a hill so that her teacher does't find out that the desk is missing. In the end the teacher opens the drawer for her and she manages to take the letter out. Raven's vision does not come true she then realizes that hate mail is something wrong and it could have gotten her in a major problem. As an any sitcom the protagonists gets into the problem does the impossible to get out of it and manges to do so under 30 minutes. 

SHOT BY SHOT BY SHOT

The shots used in a film have a lot to do with the emotions, speculations, and environment the director wants the audience to feel. The shots are very important because they create the way the movie is perceived and seen by the audience since they get to see what has to be seen in order for the story to move along.

THE LONG SHOT

the long shot in this films sets up the scene by letting the audience know the setting and the environment and shows how there are many people around her because of the news she is about to receive by the gloomy  lighting it shows that the news is not very good

THE MEDIUM SHOT

in this medium shot we see the camera get closer to both actors to capture more of the emotion of the news that the female character is about to receive. it makes the audience observe both of the characters faces to see whats going on more closely

THE CLOSE UP SHOT

in this close up it is seen the pain that the character is experiencing once she finds out that her lover is dead. It makes the audience see the pain that the actress is portraying. 

In all of these shots it is seen how the close up medium and long shots help the audience understand the intensity of the scene and also the meaning of such tragedy in the characters life. By doing this the audience feels more into the scene since every aspect of it is shown.

Let's go see a John Wayne

        The studio system in a way was a technique that assured, or at least made it more probable for a movie to be a blockbuster with just the actors that the film contained. Although some of the greatest films were made at this time people didn't look much at the film but more at the people that were in it in order to figure out or predict what the film would be about.  The most important aspect was putting the actor in the same role so that when people heard that this actor was appearing in the film they knew what to expect which made them go to the right film and one that they would enjoy the most. 

       Since audiences showed what type of actors they liked and in what films they wanted to see by going to the movies every time they were in the starring role these people created a sense of mold films which were the ones that were very similar.  The studio would produce more of the same story lines with the same actor in a similar role so that they would be able to get more profit. This meant that many other stories could not really be taken into account since in such a time most people went to the movies to see their favorite actor playing what role best suited them in the audiences opinion.

              This very wells seen because when you see movies of this time you see the same people playing the same type of role. this is why when you speak of a western film with cowboys and saloons you cannot have this conversation without mentioning  john wayne, he was Mr. Cowboy in this period of time. This is the same when you talk about the innocent girl who always does what is told and is very venerable, Judy Garland comes to mind with movies like the Wizard of Oz in which she spends the whole film trying to return safely back home.         
 This can be a factor that could have helped the year 1939 be so great people showed what they wanted and who they wanted therefore the studio system tried their best to give them what they wanted.

"HE'S LIKE THAT"

  In all in the family the situation of homo-sexuality is like the huge elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about but exists. Carroll O'Connor's character is very against the whole gay thing and wants to avoid.In a modern sitcom this most of the time is taken as something normal there are shows like Ugly Betty, Glee and Modern Family that take a persons homo sexuality as a normal thing and don't make a huge deal about who's straight or gay. they might not like the homosexuality situation but they don't condemn people for being what they are. 

   There was one  similarity between this show and the shows today. They way writers portray the homosexual character or the person that is presumed to be a homosexual has not changed in a very drastic matter. The flamboyant clothes the language  and tone of voice that they use when speaking is still very stereotypical, when a homosexual is on screen. 

The situations in All in the family were very different to those which we deal with today, Jean Stapleton's character was so excited with the pictures the family friend brought back from his trip, to her this technology was very wonderful and she just kept thinking how a second later the people in and around the picture kept on with their lives. The way that they dealt with the friends possible homosexuality was also different, today homosexuality isn't really a very talked about topic on television it's just there, something that is happening and that sometimes appears and when it does the whole episode doesn't revolve around a person's sexual preferences. 

I think people have learned to take homosexuality as something still a bit abnormal, but the way that it is dealt with today is more of a people getting used to the face of homosexuals existing rather than right away judging a person just because of their sexual preferences.   

Radio days are OVER?

Technology has had a great impact on how the customer and the consumer enjoy the music and radio. Today with the creation of the iPod and all sorts of mp3 devices many times people just opt to download the song of their show in contrast with before that they would loyally wait by the radio to hear their favorite jam. 

 

Today many people only listen to the radio as a consolation either they have no iPod or no means of getting a CD created. With all this new technology that has come into circulation the radio days are practically over, unless you listen to radio stations online. But not all is negative towards the radio in some places people still listen to it regularly, iPod has some what made radio a bit more reachable for this new iGeneration by making some of their models have radio stations that run in the FM transmissions. Still i believe that mp3 players have taken much of the audience that is could have been of the radios if not for them. 

In the 1920's radio was practically the source that kept the public informed and also help people keep together in their family household. as soon as other technologies started to come into play all of this started to change. As soon as the TV came into play many people started to use that as their source of information I mean who doesn't want to see moving pictures rather than just listening to a voice out of a box. People want to see the persons face and no longer hope and wish that the person's voice really matches their imagination being. just like for the boy who imagined the person as a great big hero but it turned out to be a person smaller than his father. Radio had it's time of glory unfortunately today its is just another item that some people take for granted many of them rather listen to song after song than have the Dj's title and skill be repeated over and over in every effect that can be put on a voice.   

MEN=BLUE WOMEN=PINK

Before we go into school or have friends sometimes our only teacher is media weather it is on television or on the radio every time we listen to these sources we grab a bit of what we want our personality to be.

Ever since we have been part of the media we have in one way or another acted the way that the media portrays the person that we want to be. As children when we watch television we are automatically assigned the colors that we should love girls have to use, have, breath pink and on the other hand boys have to hate anything with flowers or with pink, they have to play with trucks that are blue and must wear blue.

As we grow older media also helps with our thinking a certain way or acting a certain way, even as gown people we still might act the way our favorite character acts on Glee. We like that character we want to be like them we also do it to see if the people around us act the way people do on television and have the happy ending that the protagonist has, which most of the time doesn't happen. In one way media does this is by always showing the stereotype of girls and boys, girls will always be the one that cries or is in any kind of distress and either it's because of a boy or a boy is the solution, and in comes the masculine non sensitive knight in shining armor  ready to help his damsal in distress. This is the scene that is always seen in movies kids shows you name it and as people see this they choose the role that they have to play.

In the video above my emotions are very strong and i show what i really feel which many times on television many men don't do, they just stay quiet and wait for another damsal to came along.
In the end we are all our on character and its better to act the way we want as long as we are happy with it who cares with it is not what media says we have to do as long as ME= WHO I REALLY WANT TO BE

FRAMING YOUR IDENTITY

Framing is the one reason that people fear to be who they really are for when they act in accordance to something that is not associated with how society views them most of the time they are shunned upon.  In order to be accepted many time we have to be chameleons in order for people to like us, and some of the time they are mostly those people that live in the frame of what in society is viewed is correct. Framing also makes people view other races cultures or sexes in a certain way for example many of the times when it comes to locking the doors some might say "Lock the door because a black man might get in" when a child or someone who is not really aware of thing hears this they will from then on also think that the only kind of person that breaks into peoples houses is a black man. Framing in my opinion is just another word for prejudice and should really have nothing to do with the way you view another person for in the end they might not fit the frame set upon them by society.

In this picture u see an asian about to stab a Mexican, in many ways this is a step out of Framing. Not only is the person with the knife an asian but she is also a woman which in many cases is the victim and not the attacker. In this case when i posted this on a social network one of the comments was " What an Asian stabbing a Mexican" which in fact made me see how the framing of me being a mexican male is of being the person who attacks the defenseless asian girl. Woman in the media always turn out to be the victim the damsel in distress not many shows portray them as the killers or murderers. One show who is all about breaking that image the Mexican show "Mujeres Asesinas" killer woman. In the promos the Actresses state their name and say I am a murderer which at first hearing sound very strong coming from a a woman's voice. Mujeres Asesinas now in it's third season portrays the many ways women step out of the role of victim and become as many people call them monsters. Once more framing comes into play women aren't suppose to kill they are suppose to be a mother, daughter, wife but never a killer I believe this show steps out of the frame that woman have and makes people see that not all women like to be the victim.
